Our Doctors and Staff

Dr. Jason Farrell

Medical Director

His veterinary career path began when he graduated, with honors, from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1998.

After S.L.U., Dr. Farrell attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine receiving his D.V.M in 2002. He practiced on the northshore of Louisiana for 7 yrs before opening his first veterinary hospital in 2009 and his second in 2017.

He sold both his hospitals and started at Gulf Coast Veterinary Emergency in February 2023. Dr. Farrell was also a part time instructor at S.L.U. for several years after graduating vet school.

Dr. Sara Lott

Medical Director

Dr. Sara Lott is a 2001 graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was in general practice in Hattiesburg, MS for over 20 years, and is still a partner in Emergency Vets in Hattiesburg.

She began working on a relief basis at GCVEH in January 2023, and joined as a full-time veterinarian in April 2024.

She has served on the board of directors for the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association, the Greater Hattiesburg Veterinary Medical Association, and the Mississippi Animal Disaster Relief Fund.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and caring for her two Oriental Shorthairs, Henry and Nigel.

Dr. Kellen Choate

DVM

Meet Dr. Kellen Choate from Summit, MS with a passion for animal care. Graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Psychological Sciences and double minors in chemistry and biological sciences, Dr. Choate’s journey to veterinary medicine was uniquely shaped by a year as a veterinary technician. In May 2020, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Mississippi State University.

Since then, Dr. Choate has been a familiar face in Mississippi, working as both a general practice and relief veterinarian. Joining GCVEH in May 2023, she quickly became a valued member of the team, now serving full-time.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Choate enjoys the tranquility of outdoor activities on her family’s farm, tending to cattle, and spending time with her three cats and three dogs. With her dedication and compassion, she looks forward to meeting you and your pets, ensuring their well-being and happiness.

Dr. Jenna Dessauer

DVM

Jenna Dessauer, DVM, has been part of our team since December 2023. Dr. Jenna attended Louisiana State University where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and graduated with honors. Following her graduation from veterinary school in 2014, Dr. Jenna worked as a small animal general practitioner at Folsom Animal Hospital until transitioning here in 2023 to work in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Jenna loves spending time with her husband and two boys as well as her dog and cat. She loves spending time outside picking blueberries and blackberries with her children, going on family walks, and running.

Dr. Alison Stewart

DVM

Dr. Alison Stewart is a Mississippi Gulf Coast native hailing from St. Martin, MS. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Animal and Dairy Science from Mississippi State University in 2018, then returned to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2024. She developed a love for emergency medicine when she worked as a vet tech here at Gulf Coast Veterinary Emergency Hospital prior to veterinary school.

Her love for emergency medicine continued to grow throughout vet school with her involvement in the Student Chapter of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, for which she was awarded the Emergency and Critical Care Award at graduation.

In her spare time, Dr. Stewart enjoys spending time with her wife and their 2 dogs and 3 cats. She also loves to work out, read books, and play video games. She is excited to be able to serve the people and pets of the community that she grew up in.
